Employee’s Son Caught in Parkland, FL Crossfire — GoFundMe Created to Help

February 22, 2018 by Steve Holman 14 Comments

The violent madness that enveloped the children of the Marjory Stoneham Douglas High touched many of our employees in Broward County. It seems there are few who don’t know someone impacted, or worse, know someone whose young life was unbelievably and tragically cut short.

The rampage touched one of our people closer than most, though. Kyle Laman, son of Fort Lauderdale MINI technician and Team Lead Franz Laman, is a freshman at the school (Kyle is also the nephew of Pompano GM Joe Sparacino and BDC Lead Kristen Martinson). On that awful Wednesday, the gunman confronted Kyle, who dove into a restroom as the attacker fired, hitting him in the leg. When the shooter paused, Kyle and another student ran down three flights of steps, eventually moving aside bodies to open the back door so that they and other students could escape.

Since the day after the shootings, Kyle has had several surgeries to reconstruct his ankle, and extensive skin grafts will necessitate further hospital stays. The fact that he escaped with his life has been called “a total miracle.” A crowdfunding page has been created to help the Laman’s with the medical costs of repairing Kyle’s substantial injuries, HERE.

We can’t reverse the terrible events of February 14, but we can help one of our own families start to heal.

Such a brave young man! We wish Kyle a speedy recovery. I have shared this Gofundme page with my friends and asked that they will share it as well. Such a tragic event to happen to anyone especially someone so young. Our hearts go out to all of the families touched by this horrible event. All of us wish Kyle and his family, physical and spiritual healing. Godspeed Kyle.

Kyle you are a true HERO & ‘1’ of the bravest people I know! I’m putting you at the top of my prayer list, right next to my brother & friend Jen! I pray God heals you completely and you can get back to being a busy teenager, soon! My heart hurts for all of the victims, families & friends. This tragedy has certainly touched the world. You have some very smart, level headed fellow students that are making their voices & intentions heard. Hopefully something productive & fruitful will change how the government views ‘the right to bear arms….vs. semi-automatic weapons of mass destruction’ in the wrong hands, so none of these families has to live feeling their loss was all in vain. Sending Prayers & Hugs XOXO
