During this year’s United Way campaign our employees showed many different kinds of devotion to their local United Ways. I heard about one kind last week from the Holman Honda’s own Eveready Bunny, Angela Adkins. She told me that during the summer, working with the United Way of Broward County, all the Southern dealerships collected school supplies for students who might otherwise have had none. In August, the stores sent all those supplies to the corporate offices in Fort Lauderdale. Then Angela and fellow stalwart Kim McCurley – showing more than “a little OCD” – went to work, sorting through the piles of donated items and organizing them into the different kinds of supplies, before turning them over to the United Way.
According to Angela, every year the school supply campaign gets a little bigger and a little better. Her final comment? “Great Job everyone!!!!”
Meanwhile, Honda’s GM Peter Brandt sent me photos of their United Way campaign kickoff event, a tricycle-water balloon extravaganza coordinated by – you guessed it – Ms. Adkins. Angela sold water balloon for $2 each (or the value package of 3 balloons for $5!), and brave tricycle riders ran a gauntlet of water-balloon-wielding employees, eager to pummel the cyclists. Honda also held a cookout and bake sale, and along with the tricycle races raised over $765 additional for United Way. I’ll let the photos tell the story of the day.
