Our One Holman Pledges: $1,440,277!
When Steward Holman joined the Community Chest of Camden County just after World War II, he could scarcely have imagined a future in which Holman employees — from locations across North America — would rally to the mission of the United Way for seven decades. Nor would he have believed that these employees would demonstrate the extraordinary generosity to donate over $1M in every year since 2010.
Yet this year’s theme — There’s More WE Can Do — spoke to the truth that many of our neighbors continue to struggle. They are burdened by limited educational opportunities, poor access to healthcare and other basic needs, and financial instability. And so as before, this year’s campaign joined together all parts of the Holman organization into a unified effort to strengthen all of our local communities by attacking these root causes of hardship.
Little could anyone have predicted how many of our own people would be impacted by unprecedented natural disasters in the late summer and fall of 2017. Hurricanes in Houston, South Florida, and Puerto Rico left a devastating wake that will not be fully erased for years. An earthquake in Mexico City left buildings in rubble, and wildfires tore through Northern California. Despite the extraordinary hardships these calamities visited upon our employees, our people still responded to the call of the United Way, reaching 98% of the ambitious goals set by our United Way team and pledging $1,440,277.
